Roy Wilkinson was born in Newcastle upon Tyne.

He was written for magazines and newspapers including The Guardian, The Independent, MOJO, Q, The Word, Sounds, NME, Just Seventeen and Angling Times.

From the late 1990s until 2005 he managed British Sea Power.
